Ready to go !

Hi everyone ready to go to the capital ? Follow me on a weekend in the city of Stockholm! I was in an exchange programm in Gothenburg for five months, Stockholm was only 3h30 away by train and the price for the train ticket was really reasonable (check out: https://mtrexpress.se/en). The city of Stockholm looks like a gathering of different little islands. If you arrive in Stockholm by the central station go to the information point to have a useful map of the city, guides, informations,…..

Stockholm Free Guided Tour

I used Airbnb to find a room for the weekend with my best friend for a reasonable price and close to the city center. I think that Airbnb is a good alternative to find nice and affordable rooms while traveling. Our room was 3 minutes away to a metro station ( Karlaplan) and 10 minutes to gamla stan (the old town) where we headed first.

Gamla stan is like a little island near the city center, you can find a lot of shops, historical monuments such as churchs, palace, houses,…This neighbourhood has a lot of charm and hidden places to discover. We spend one full day there, to visit the palace, walk through cobbled streets.  Gamla stan is well serve by public transport (T13, T14, T17, T18, T19: Gamla Stan stop). We were lucky enough to assist to traditional swedish dance in from of the Nobel Museum. If you want to taste and eat typical swedish food I warmly recommend you Gästabud restaurant. The swedish meatball are a “Must eat” ! At the end of the day we took a walk near the sea side, port, and enjoyed the view and the seagulls.

In Stockholm there is more than one palace (such as the Drottningholm palace) but because of a time and distance limits we chose to focus on the royal palce (Kungliga Slottet), in Gamla stan, the official residence of the King, we wanted to see the Royal Apartments and the Treasury.

You can’t miss it and it is really close to the entrance of Gamla Stan. We took 2 hours to visit the palace and the treasury. At the beginning of the visit there is an exposition of different piece of clockmaking, jewelries and ornaments. The outside looks really simple but the interior is well-decorated and rich. Don’t forget to look up to enjoy the paintings and sculptures on the ceiling, Heads up !

Have a nice weekend
